RECIPROCITY (2026) *

This mural centers on two central themes: nature and collaboration. Blue jays - birds local to central Ohio - are incredibly intelligent and social animals. They not only form tight bonds with one another but also build close-knit, family-like structures. Beyond their beauty and intelligence, blue jays participate in a phenomenon called mutualism in which two different species support and benefit each other. For blue jays, cedar trees provide a reliable food source through their berries often dropped in the fall. In return, the jays help disperse and germinate the tree seeds, often without even realizing it. Some studies have shown that entire forests can emerge from this dynamic relationship.

This design reflects our own similarities to these remarkable creatures. Even though we may be different, we all have the capacity to support, uplift, and mutually benefit one another through collaboration.

The blue jays in our space remind us of the importance of supporting one another and the impact of true collaboration. This mural reflects how working together transforms our environment and elevates the way we support one another.
